2025 NFL Draft Recap: Who Won, Who Lost, and What It Means for the Season
How the 2025 NFL Draft Could Reshape the League for Years to Come
So the 2025 NFL Draft is in the books. All the selections have been made and it will have major ramifications on the league. Who will be the next stars? Who will be a draft bust? Only time will tell.
But until then - let's pick some arbitrary winners and losers - as if I know what the future holds!
Winners
Tyler Warren
Warren received a call when the Jets were on the clock at No.7 overall.
This call is the realisation of a lifelong dream for every player entering the draft. It is a significant moment where everything you have worked for comes to fruition. You're officially in the NFL. The thing you always dreamt of.
Then you realise it's a prank call.
Everything you felt is a lie and someone is messing with you.
Getting "The Call" and told you had realised a lifelong dream only to then realise it was a prank call doesn't sound like much of a win.
But not actually having to play for the Jets............. sounds like a win to me.
Warren ended up going No.14 to the Colts, so he didn't have to wait long for his dreams to really come true.
Future Rams Fans
No - I don't mean people who aren't yet fans. I mean us - In a years time.
Rams fans will have the very strange experience of being heavily invested in a first round of the draft!
A strange experience considering they have picked once (Jared Verse) in a first round since time began.
Next year they will pick twice!
Unheard of.
Unbelievable.
Yeah...... Les Snead is probably gonna trade both picks.......
Caleb Williams
The Bears went TE, WR then OT with the first 3 picks. All inside the top 56.
Give the Bears a lot of credit - they are trying to help Caleb Williams. 2 new pass catchers should help the former No.1 pick take the next step.
They could be a force in the future.
Jalen Ramsey
Does the Rams not picking a CB make them trading for Ramsey more likely?
Well the way McVay spoke last week it really wouldn't surprise me if they did.
Ramsey knows the coaches, the city and the defense.
Seems like a re-union could happen.
Maybe......
The City of Green Bay and Matthew Golden
Honestly this draft looked so much fun. The fans were loud, which adds so much for the experience. Reportedly over 200,000 for the 1st round alone.
The noise when Matthew Golden was picked was insane. A Moment he will never forget.
Losers
Shedeur Sanders
That was some slide. Nobody predicted Shedeur would have to wait that long. NFL GM's obviously had concerns about Sanders style and his abilities. Perhaps concerns about the 'show' that comes with him were a reason for his slide?
He is clearly better than a 5th round talent - so something spooked those GM's.
Then when he finally got picked it was by a team that had already drafted a QB 2 rounds previous.
And that team was ....... The Browns.
Sanders has the opportunity to make every single GM in the League looks stupid - Whether he will take it is a different question entirely.
Will Levis
The selection of Cam Ward 1st overall puts the final nail in Levis' Titans career. It was already clear that the 33rd pick in the 2023 draft had been given up on by Tennessee.
But Ward's selection means we likely never see him start for the Titans again.
He could be a trade candidate - and at 25 is still young enough to turn his career around.
If he goes somewhere with a good coaching staff then perhaps this turns out to be a win.
His ideal landing spot would be a team without a desperate need at QB, where he can come in and develop. Maybe one day he develops into a starting QB. Or worst case he is a capable back up.
Perhaps the Vikings, Lions, Eagles or even the Rams.
Sure would be interesting to see if a change of scenario would change Levis' prospects.
I guess only time will tell.......
My Fatigue Levels
Getting up at 1am to watch the draft seemed like a good idea at the time. Not so much the next morning.
I would say I won't do it next time....... but who am I kidding.
At Least the Rams might pick someone in the first round next time........ hopefully.
One way or another, the 2025 draft feels like a turning point for a lot of franchises. Now we just have to wait and see who makes us look smart... and who makes us look stupid.
