LA Rams Top Needs of the 2025 Draft
The Rams made some serious progress in the 2024 season. Not many people expected them to be a playoff team, nevermind coming as close as they did. Pushing the eventual Champions close, at home in the snow.
They have a serious platform to build upon - and don't have that many glaring holes in the roster going into the 2025 draft.
So what to do with those picks?
F*** them - right?
Well.... maybe not this time!
There are areas where the Rams could use reinforcements. And given their strong track record of uncovering late round gems, don’t be surprised if Les Snead and Sean McVay cook up another draft that makes you go, “Wait… who?” and then, a few months later, “Oh wow, that guy’s a starter.
Here are five positions where the Rams could look to get better in the 2025 draft:
1) Tight End
The Rams allegedly tried to trade up to the 13th pick last year to get Brock Bowers and it feels like Sean McVay has wanted to upgrade at Tight End for a while.
Granted - Tight Ends like Bowers don't come around a whole lot. But if a quality one dropped to them at pick 26? That might be hard to pass up.
A legitimate pass-catching tight end would unlock a whole new layer of this offense. It would let McVay expand his formations, lean harder into play-action, and create matchup nightmares.
My gut tells me the Rams trade out of the 1st round. But I really wouldn't be shocked to see them go TE early.
2) Cornerback
Corner isn’t a dire need, but it’s definitely a spot where they could upgrade. My sense is that the Rams are fine with what they have. But they would like an upgrade given the opportunity.
The question is, how highly do they rate this CB class? And will they have the chance to draft one that they like. I can't see the Rams doing anything drastic (like trade to the top of the 1st) to acquire one of the top corners.
But if one they love falls to them......different scenario.
3) Quarterback
Matthew Stafford is still playing at a very high level and he is obviously the starter. But he is 37 with a history of niggling injuries. So it's time for the Rams to look for what's next.
It's the perfect opportunity for a young, raw QB to come into. They can sit for a year or two and learn from one of the best and most experienced QB's in league. While having Mcvay tutor them as well. No pressure to immediately start (barring injury) and the chance to develop.
This QB class isn't highly thought of - but the Rams have two 3rd round picks and I wouldn't be surprised if they use one on as a swing on a developmental QB.
4) Inside Linebacker
On paper this is the one area where the Rams could improve most if a quality starter fell to 26.
My issue here is the value the organization has traditionally put on the position. They had a very good, young linebacker in Ernest Jones who they traded away for peanuts because they were unwilling to pay him.
Would this change if they got a generational talent at LB? Probably. But if not and you go LB at pick 26 - are you in the same scenario in a few years where you don't want to pay them?
Also the signings of Reeder and Landman suggest that the Rams will not go LB high.
They don't value the position and I've seen nothing to change my mind.
Maybe they draft one in the later rounds.
5) Offensive Line
The Rams line came on leaps and bounds late in the year and I don't see any glaring holes along the line. But you can never have too much depth at this position. Especially given the Rams injury history at the position!
Historically they have been good at picking up day 2/3 offensive line help and I can very much see them picking some up again. The risk of not doing so is that the injuries that ravaged them over the last few years strike again and they cannot keep stafford up right.
The Rams will be desperate to get the most out of Stafford while the window is open and to do that they need to keep him upright. Not battling for his life.
Not the flashiest pick, but arguably one of the most important if they want to make another playoff run.
Final Thoughts
With just a week to go until the 2025 NFL Draft, the Rams are in a strong position. They don’t have to force anything. But knowing Les Snead? Expect the unexpected.
Whether they trade down, pick up a future QB, or surprise us with a first-round tight end, one thing is certain: this draft will be entertaining.
Let me know what you think they will do in the comments.
